"Strangers in a New Land is a profound and challenging account of an intensely controversial subject, the first human occupation of the New World, written by an acknowledged master."
— Tom Dillehay, Vanderbilt University
Our book of the month for June is Strangers in a New Land: What Archaeology Reveals About the First Americans by J.M. Adovasio and David Pedler.
Strangers in a New Land tells the fascinating story of the first people to explore and settle in the Americas and details the academic discoveries that challenged the formerly accepted version of New World prehistory that people arrived in the Western Hemisphere around 13,000 years ago.
Looking closely at 35 significant archaeological sites across North and South America and showcasing stunning photography of ancient sites and artifacts, this book tells the captivating story of early history and the first people to colonize the New World, possibly as long ago as 38,000 years before the present.
Strangers in a New Land is the perfect read for National Indigenous History Month, the celebration of the heritage and cultures of Indigenous peoples taking place across Canada in June. Browse our books about First Nations history here.
